Once upon a time, the Aldari ruled the galaxy, but their civilization collapsed under the weight of their own vices. Now they are a fragmented and fading race, whose numerous factions are looking for a way to prevent or at least delay their extinction. The Aldari factions are distinctive. The Asuryanis roam the sea of stars in huge spaceships called ship worlds and preach a strict philosophy of the Paths, so as not to repeat the fate of their fallen ancestors. Harlequins, battle dancers who worship the Laughing God Cegorach, do not see the difference between war and art. The freedom-loving Corsairs exalt individualism, plundering the cosmic paths for personal gain, while the Ynnari see salvation in uniting under the leadership of Inneyad, the God of the Dead.
